Free Mobile Web on Verizon Phones
Here is a legal way to get free mobile web on your verizon phone without paying the $5.00/month to verizon.
1) First go to http://www.mobileweb4u.com/setup.html and select your phone model. you will get instructions on how to change the IP address and port number your phone uses to connect to the web. you will notice though that they wont tell you the IP address and port number to use. they will say xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx for the IP address and yyyy for the port. instead use 194.204.012.042 for the IP address and 9201 for the port. it worked for me and my samsung a670.
2) if that IP address and port doesn't work, try one from www.publicproxyservers.com
Why is this legal? When you pay verizon that $5.00/month you are just paying them to use their server. Basically your phone connects to their server and then to the internet. if you use someone else's server and that other server decides not to charge you to use it then theres nothing illegal there.

Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy Movie!
It looks like they are coming out with a "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" movie this spring - one from hollywood with a budget bigger than Dr. Who :)
The only one I have seen so far is the dvd set of the old UK TV series which reminded me very much of Dr Who. It seemed interesting but the effects and aliens were just so cheezy I couldn't watch it all. but this looks like it will be cool.

Dedicated Server Providers
For a long time I have had servers with Serverbeach and they have been OK, but lately their slow support has been annoying me. For instance, there are two major problems I have with them which are as follows:
1) For the past several months when I reboot my server it never comes back up. So I submit a ticket and wait, and wait, and wait. This happened to me just the other day - I submitted my ticket and waited about 4 hours for a response. To me this is unacceptable when my server is down. This is a critical request and they waited 4 hours to reply. Not only that, but this has been an ongoing problem for several months now.
Shortly after it started happening, I scheduled a window with them where they could troubleshoot it, they said they were able to find the cause and resolve it so it would not happen again. But within a couple weeks - it happened again.
So once again, I set a time for them to troubleshoot it, and this time they said that there was a setting in the BIOS preventing it from coming back up after a reboot. They said (AGAIN) that they fixed it and it would not happen anymore. And that brings us to the other day when it happened AGAIN. Their response was as follows:
Subject:
Hello,
There was a bios setting that was incorrect on your server and it was causing the server to suspend instead of reboot. The setting has been corrected so you shouldn't have the problem anymore.
Thank you for using ServerBeach!
That's twice that they told me it was a BIOS setting!
2) So the second thing that has been annoying about their support is that since they don't offer any kind of hardware firewall, I have had to use Sygate Firewall. It works well but after it is first installed, it is automatically set to block all traffic. So every time I have to install it I have to submit a ticket and wait several hours for them to unblock me. This is where it would be nice if they had phone support where I could just call them up and say "click this, this and this please". And very often when there are other problems preventing me from accessing my machine, they like to blame it on sygate because "it's not an item they support".
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash serverbeach. They do seem to have a solid network with little downtime, it's just that their response time to critical support issues is a bit lacking. If you are looking for a cheap server with limited support for use in a non-critical environment, then Serverbeach might be OK. I am just very frustrated with then and I am venting.
With that said, I have been looking at servermatrix. They have limited management with all servers, and for an extra fee you can get full management. They offer things like hardware firewalls, Shared SQL Server Databases, NAS backups and more. And more important, they have phone support and their SLA says they will always pick up within 2 rings. Have any of you had any experience with ServerMatrix? If so, please post comments and share your experience.

This seems to be a good site to find coupon codes for online stores. Before buying anything online go here first and search for the site you are buying from. Usually there is some kind of coupon. The site looks kind of hokey, but seems to have some good content. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the java based search form.

Get a FREE (Your Product Here)
I'm sure you have all heard about the freephotoipods.com and freeminimac.com type of promotions. And you have proabaly all signed up for them only to realize that your friends don't want to sign up for eFax or Blockbuster Online. That's why you should use a Conga. It's kind of like the G-Queue thing I posted about last week for getting gmail accounts. Basically you use one of the referral links from the conga to sign up for freeWhatever.com and then your referral link goes onto the conga for someone else to sign up with, and before you know it, you've met your requirements and your free item will be on its way.

Run a Web Server from Home.
For those of you who don't want or can't afford professional web hosting you can host your website from your home computer over your cable or DSL connection. Keep in mind that if you are running a business site that you rely on, I don't reccommend running it from home. But if you just want to host a personal site or something then definitely give it a try.
Here's a website all about how you can do it:

and if you decide to run your own website and want a nice design, try one of these website templates

Get a Gmail Account
I have been trying to get a Gmail account since it was first announced and have had no luck until now. I have searched through forums and all over the web and it seems like many people have dozens of gmail invites that they are selling or auction or whatever but it boggled my mind how people were getting all these invites when I cant get one.
Well I just came across an AWESOME site called G-queue.
"This is a FREE service that's offered to anyone looking to gain a Gmail invite code using a queue system meaning that first person in line waiting for invite will get an invite when one becomes available. Once the user has been issued an invite code, the second person in line is move to the front of the line and so on and so on."
I just came across this about an hour ago and within 30 minutes of signing up (probably less than that actually) I got my invite.
