Start Using CSS or Get Left in the Dust.

Recently I have come across several great articles touting the benefits of using CSS in your web pages. Although I have been using it for years, I have never really used it to its fullest extent.
The great thing about CSS, when used properly, is that it allows you to seperate your presentation from your actual content. The advantage to this is that it makes it MUCH easier to make changes to your design because you will not have to touchyour content.

These links and tutorials are helping get me on the right path and I thought you might find them helpful too:

Gmail Helps Manage SPAM

I was watching The Screen Savers yesterday and got a nice little tip about how to use Gmail to fight SPAM.

Let's say your address is example@gmail.com. you go to sign up for a free ipod or something and you just know that when you enter your email address you are going to get some spam. instead of entering example@gmail.com you can actually append anything you want to your email address by adding a +. so for instance instead of entering example@gmail.com into the form you could enter example+SPAM@gmail.com. and the message would still go to your account but you could set up a filter in gmail to move everything to example+SPAM@gmail.com to your spam folder.

i hope i explained that right. its really a cool little feature.

Led Zeppelin and Satan?!

The rumors are true - I think everyone has heard the rumor about an old 60's rock album having satanic messages when you play it backwards, and probably like me you figured it was just a rumor and didnt give it much thought. Well I came across this blogpost where the guy posted the lyrics and he put together an MP3 of that peice of the song played forwards and then backwards. I could not beleive my ears.

Its a little hard to make out so youshoudl play the song while reading the lyrics he posted.

A Guide to HTTP.

Here is an interesting read for newbies. I found it posted here at "The Binary Realm".

HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol and has been around since 1990. It is an application layer protocol used to distribute information from various types of hypermedia, such as a web server. The current version in use in HTTP v1.1. This article is ment to be a general overview of the protocol we use day in and day out, with out even giving it a thought.

HTTP Mechanics:
The port that listens for HTTP requests is port 80, but this can be changed if desired. A client sends a request to a server, and then waits for a reply back which contains a status code. This is called a request/response model and is actually quite simple. When a request is made it includes the web resource that is wanted by using a URI (Uniform Resource Identifier).

As stated above, the URI indicates the resource desired by the client. There are two main parts to a URI. The URN (Uniform Resource Name), and the URL (Uniform Resource Locater). The URI is nothing more than a formatted string used to identify network resources by location and name.

From the Dog

Here is a funny email I recently received. It's nto at all tech related but its a good read for all you dog lovers out there.

TO GOD - FROM THE DOG:

Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell oneanother?

Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it stillthe same old story?

Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, themustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for adog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a niceride! Would it be so hard to rename the "Chrysler Eagle" the "ChryslerBeagle"?

Dear God: If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hearshim,is he still a bad dog?

Dear God: We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signalswhistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energyfields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?

Dear God: More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have toapologize?

Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things I mustremember- to be a good dog:
1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throwitup.
2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because Ilike the way they smell.
3. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.. neither are Mom and Dad's laps.
4. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.
5. My head does not belong in the refrigerator.
6. I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Mom'sdriver's license and registration.
7. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on thetoilet.
8. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way ofsaying"hello".
9. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffeetable.
10. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house -not after.
11. I will not throw up in the car.
12. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt.
13. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotchwhen we have company.
14. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makesthat noise, it's usually not a good thing.
And, finally, My last question
...Dear God: When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back?
